Review of Hot Fuzz (2007) by Sean N — 18 Dec 2013
Hot Fuzz catches the greatest parts of how to make a parody which is easily knowing what you are parodying and still make a plot. Hot Fuzz takes on the buddy cop genre as they easily make fun of how insane the genre has been getting.
We get a super cop being transported into a small quiet town where nothing, but "accidents" occur. The beginning of film takes jabs at the perfect cop character or the badass action hero as Simon Pegg plays as an officer is always ready to fight for the law.
Being transported into a little quiet town doesn't go that well for the officer has his strictness does not fit along with the town's happy attitude. There is murder afoot though, but everyone is assuming they're just accidents since there hasn't been a recorded murder for two decades.
The plot of this movie is surprisingly great and usually parodies just keep things simple. Hot Fuzz can catch a viewer completely off guard as there is a lot of intentional foreshadowing, but also some that cannot be caught.
Along with that style of foreshadowing there is a great build up of humor with nice running gags and great follow ups. I have watched this movie around five times and I am never bored with it, the humor is strong and this film still has my all time favorite climatic battle.
Hot Fuzz overall is a strong build up film and when everything starts to hit and connect the real humor can begin. It is easily the best example of dark humor I have seen in a film since I usually don't laugh when murder happens.
