Review of Hostel: Part III (2011) by The D — 17 Dec 2011
A pretty tame & dull third installment. I should imagine Eli Roth will be distancing himself from this.
The story & setting have very little to do with parts I & II, infact there isn't really a hostel involved barring the first few minutes.
Four men on a stag trip are invited to a very exclusive club off the Vegas strip. All seems well at first until they are taken against their will to be targets for an elite hunting club, Viewed & gambled upon by a wealthy & unscrupulous audience the targets inevitably meet with messy ends.
Some twists to the relationships between the victims are weak & uninteresting to say the least and the gore is infrequent & nowhere near the schlock factor of the first two films. At least with Saw when the story slipped away it maintained it's shock factor with new ways to kill the victims. So Part III here manages to lose both these elements in one easy swoop.
Some faces you will now particularly Kretschmann but his role although key is limited & not remotely impressive.
Will there be a fourth? Probably but the incline down the hill is steep.
