Review of Hostel: Part III (2011) by Dillinger P — 28 Jan 2014
As a huge fan of the Hostel franchise I was going into this film completely aware that I was about to witness something horrendous... What I got was a surprise, Hostel 3 is not as bad as you think it may be, however that's not saying much.
Under new direction, a slightly new set up is under way, making every 5 minutes play with your expectations, due to events of the previous films, and spinning them right around. The problem is that this film decides to do this every 5 minutes.
It becomes less about the effect and more about the film trying to be relevant within the trilogy. It works to some degree, there are some nice visual moments in the piece and some avenues of voyouristic perversity that are further explored here, this cannot hide how horrendous the scripting and acting in this film really are though.
The "F" word being used in the last 10 minutes more than any film I've ever seen lays testiment to this. This film also seems to have taken a twist away from video nasty and tried to make it like a television pilot, which works in some respects.
All in all, the film falters far too much to make up for this. not a disaster but nowhere near the mark it had to reach to become a memorable film.
