Review of Hostel (2011) by Anna L — 12 Feb 2011
Hostel is quite brilliant. In the begginning it plays out almost like Eurotrip except not as funny. Then when it finally gets to the torture the movie delivers it in spades. It is entertaining and sickening and exploitative.
It delivers what it sets out to deliver and it does it well! Eli Roth revolutionized the horror genre by creating a sense of dread to substitute fear. You are forced to watch horrible things and end up dreading the inevitable.
Through supurb filmaking Roth is able to create a Catharsis and puts us in the emotional shoes of the victim or the torturer, depending on where your mind takes you! I have an Elite hunting tattoo, do you?
