Review of Horsemen (2009) by Na D — 23 Jul 2011
I'm not quite sure how I felt about this film when I saw the previews. However, in seeing it, I did have a good time. The movie wasn't overly fantastic or anything, but it did present a good mystery, with plenty of problems for Dennis Quaid's character to work through.
Apart from the compelling story, the movie was a smidgen predictable. I guessed two of the horsemen well before they were revealed. I had a less-than-very-easy time linking them all together as well. I loved the acting.
Everyone did a GREAT job with their performances. There were some heavy hitters in this one, too. Quaid, of course, is always good. Lou Taylor Pucci always pours his soul into his roles. Fugit was great, as always.
And, as hammy as Ziyi Zhang's performance got, it was still creepy and unsettling. The story was good, and the mystery kept me interested. I liked Quaid's challenges as well. He was determined, yet he suffers from his wife's recent death and the distance between him and his two sons.
I felt for him, and was really able to root for him. I wanted everything to be okay. I didn't see why so many people didn't like this movie, because it didn't seem to have that many problems for me.
I was interested, and I wanted to know what would happen. I thought it was done well. Thank God it didn't try to pull anything paranormal into it, either. That was my biggest fear with this whole thing.
