Review of Horsemen (2009) by Lee B — 11 Oct 2009

This one just doesn?t rise up. It?s an interesting start that folds fast along the way. The director does a great job with atmosphere and even gives the family story a lot of stickiness, but when the story starts to give out clues, he falls into the clichés of driving-through-the-city montages and brooding character shots. I know the movie is a dark subject, but there are more engaging ways to visually play it, especially when it is beautifully filmed.

And I understand that Zhang Ziyi is an actress that does more that martial arts movies, which she is only OK at, but I found her role here annoying. I cannot get into specifics, and I know it is the role of a disaffected adopted child, but I think even in her natural language the acting was definite wall chewing.
