Review of Hopscotch (1980) by Jerard W — 21 Dec 2008
This is a charming and light hearted spy game movie. Usually that would spell disaster however because of the lightness there are no special effects, dramatic action sequences and heart-stopping pacing, it makes up for all that by with wonderful writing and believable set-ups with Miles Kendig (played by Walter Matthau) outsmarting the CIA and it's head Myerson (played by Ned Beatty).
What's a spy game movie with out a romantic interest and Isobel (played by Glenda Jackson) has perfect chemistry with Miles and his esteemed colleague Joe Cutter (played by Sam Waterston) looking on doing his job understanding the mind of his opponent while respecting his friend at the same time.
These actors provide the essential piece of believability to this game of cat and mouse, without that Hopscotch would look like a movie that Leslie Nielson would do... very badly.
