Review of Hopscotch (1980) by Curtis D — 01 Jan 2009
Mr. Neame has crafted a beautifully funny spy movie in which nobody dies or even comes close to dying and Matthau is always one step ahead of the CIA. If this were a Coen Brothers film, the humor would have been blacker and the body count higher, like their recent "spy" film concerning a disgruntled spy and his memoirs.
A great "meet cute" between Glenda Jackson and Matthau and great support by Waterston and Beatty, who incidentally is the only person in the film to drop the "f-bomb" thus making the film "R.
".
