Review of Hoosiers (1986) by Mark H — 07 Mar 2008
As mentioned by another reviewer, some of the characters (especially the members of the Hickory Huskers) are rather poorly drawn, but Gene Hackman shines brightly as coach Norman Dale. To call this a formula sports pic would be unfair because it is every bit about relationships and second chances as it is about basketball.
At almost two hours, 'Hoosiers' does not overstay its welcome and is a very solid piece of entertainment as well as a nice modern folktale about smalltown life in the midwest.
