Review of Hoop Dreams (1994) by Ian R — 13 Jan 2010
You couldn't make a better documentary than this.
Was going to mark it 90, but there's nothing really that could have made it better. The characters are so gripping... the twists and turns of the true life stories of these people captivate. I really appreciated the films length, as it allowed for immersion into the world, making the viewer feel completely surrounded by the struggles and hardships that each of the young stars were going through.
This isn't just a documentary about basketball... it's about life, and about this country. About the disparity between the upper and lower class, and about people... human nature. Really a touching piece, and it's hard to recommend it enough.
