Hoop Dreams is a fascinating, enlightening, sometimes heartbreaking story of two kids from inner city Chicago in their dreams to become basketball stars, from freshmen in high school to their graduation. William Gates and Arthur Agee, along with their families, are followed by truly dedicated filmmakers to create something that is nothing short of epic. There are twists in turns that are astounding all the more for it being real. In the end you feel like you know these people, and though almost three hours it doesn't feel like it ever drags with stuff that doesn't belong.

Hoop Dreams is the best documentary film I've ever seen. This is why I watch film, and why documentaries have always been among my favorite genres. The dedication of the filmmakers to cover such an extensive period in these peoples' lives just can't be praised enough.
