Review of Hook (1991) by Ian H — 31 Jan 2012
I don't understand why the critics gave such a bad mark. Leaving apart the fact that this film marked my youth (I probably worned out my VHS), but is so well done that I'm really surprised the critics "killed it" at the time.
Also some special effects for the time weren't so bad, and when Peter flies it's nearly realistic (some more modern movies did extremely worse with flying men). Dustin Hoffman is incredible, Robin Williams was very good as well, and Julia Roberts in her Fairy role was really nice.
The story is a very good modernisation of Peter Pan's character, a character that I found everytime more for the adults that for the childs (I thought it also after having watched Neverland with Johnny Depp).
