Review of Hoodwinked! (2005) by David H — 18 Apr 2012
Despite some inspired moments of quirkiness, it is mostly uninspired featuring material that is irrelevant, not really that funny and has no reason for being. However, the source material is rich and the overall twisty take on the traditional red riding hood tale sustains our interest for it's full running time.
The film is also pretty fun and you'll definetly get a few minor laughs out of this one. The film is pretty smart for an anamation film and the whole tightness and twists between the different stories is quite intriguing.
The problem is the film is all potential, it sets itself a high standard of quirkiness and humor that it never reaches and while sometimes it is witty and amusing, other times it falls flat on its face.
It doesn't really take us to the places we'd like it to, and its always hinting that something quirky and imaginative is about to happen, but never fufills on that impliment. Overall a film with great potential that could have been incredibly imaginative and funny but settles for minor quirks and humour.
