Review of Hondo (1953) by Braden A — 18 Jan 2006
Another astoundingly gorgeous western with John Wayne.
While one or two of the Apache natives are played by whites, I was actually surprised that it wasn't as racist as I was expecting. Of course thereis going to be some element of that, simply because it's a product of the time, but they did a good job portraying the honor and respect involved in the beliefs of many native tribes.
This is probably one of my favorite John Wayne performances. He really did a fantastic job in this one, and played the pain of the character very well.
Great movie. Very short, but it was very "no-bullshit". It told the story, and then it ended, which was fine by me.
