Review of Homicidal (1961) by Cindy I — 06 Oct 2010
Brilliant. I especially like the structure of this, how we see almost everything as it's happening so the mystery is instead almost entirely about motive and what's going to happen next. And even if the big reveal seems more obvious now than it did initially, it's still a lot of fun getting there.
Plus, the fright break actually makes narrative sense - it happens while a character is debating leaving - and manages to heighten the tension. The entire sequence following the fright break is fantastically effective.
