Review of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) by Bill M — 19 Dec 2014

The very definition of a cynical, "if it aint broke, lazy "cash in sequel, it sticks rigidly to every beat of the first movie from Kevin being shunned by his dicksquad of a horrible family, seriously, such a bunch of assholes!! his mum trying to get back to him whilst the rest (including his dad) seem to not give that much of a fuck, having him befriend a dirty, creepy old person, and then of course the insane, universe imploding coincidence of burglars Harry and Marv, not acting in the least bit surprised as they bump into Kevin in New York where he finds himself having a merry, credit card maxing holiday that looked so awesome to a kid, hell even to an underdeveloped adult like myself.

It's a big, cheeky rehash of course, the movie seems genuinely afraid to step outside of the first movies formula. It's also a little distastefully cynical how much this movie is just striking while the Macaulay iron is hot, and this time around the little screaming golden goose has lost his shine, the then 12 year old actor already too old to be acting all precocious, cutesy and screaming directly into the camera, it's been done, leave it please.

Would it be nice too if someone could tell Kevin's aunt and uncle that their house is now a destroyed death trap and those floorboards have been removed from the giant hole in the entrance! they'll die!! then Kevin will go to prison and get but fucked by Harry and Marv and we'll get Home Alone 3: Midnight Express.
