Review of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) by Filip C — 13 Oct 2012
I never understand what is the point of making a sequel to a comedy. The original movie usually works because its fresh in some sense. Making a sequel does not enhance the cinema, it just shows that there is cash grab involved .
Still most sequels try to do something creative with their material, throw in some variation here and there, then the producers hope the audience will enjoy spending some time with the familiar characters.
In some cases it works well (Back to the Future and Back to the Future 2/3). But there are numerous cases where it just doesn't stick (Caddyshack and Caddyshack 2, Airplane and Airplane the Sequel, Hangover and Hangover 2, Beverly Hills Cop and Beverly Hills Cop 3, Dumb and Dumber and Dumb and Dumber 2 and the list goes on, Yeeesh).
I usually accept the fact that Hollywood aims to make money, but this time they didn't even try. There is no reason for this movie to exist. This movie is fuelled by the same exact plot devices gags in a different place.
It's like they took the 'Home Alone' script, changed the locations and cut some stuff out, putting different stuff in. Re-cast Culkin and all set.
