Review of Home (2015) by Miggyd — 22 May 2015
I can appreciate what they were trying to do with this film which was to create a silly sci-fi film for children. I don't believe it was aimed at adults. But if my children had the sense to write reviews then I would gladly hand the keyboard over but here's my take being the adult that I am.
The plot was pretty straight-forward, Imminent doom check. Goofy aliens, check. Missing person of interest, check. Nothing you haven't seen before with obvious life message? Check and check.
I don't take issue with the plot so much as I do with the voice actors. There are some musicians that can transition from music to film and Rihanna, to me, has failed to sell me as a voice actress. Very monotone and off-beat not in a good sense. Steve Martin and Jim Parsons did fine though certainly not their best work. Again these two gents perform better on screen not just using their voices.
The music, if you like Rihanna well you won't be disappointed. If you dislike Rihanna well you may want to avoid this movie or go and see it with someone who has viewed it before you and can signal when to uncover your ears.
Not a horrible film but definitely one for the kids and as an adult I felt I had to endure if I was to enjoy an hour of peace.
