Review of Holy Smoke (1921) by Jonathan M — 05 Jun 2007
I thought this movie was great, just skirting the boundaries of the bizarre, and perfectly riding the line between modern nihlism and old-age religious zeal, between surrender to a higher spiritual power and charlatans, between having your shit together and totally falling apart.
It was impossible to tell who was right and who was wrong at the end. Very subtle movie and makes you wonder if any "one" approach has all the answers.
