Review of Holy Motors (2012) by Nina L — 13 Jul 2012
Hell to work out what is going on, in fact I didn't, most of the time. The French critics thought it would sweep the board at Cannes and it did not. But it should sweep something! Sensory overload, and as another reviewer said somewhere, this is what film was made to produce - although it's done in digital photography, but you know what I mean.
This film may not be that popular (there were six people in the cinema this afternoon) but it sure as hell will influence later ones. And if Leos Carax does not get a bigger-budget English-language thing to do then they are fools.
All of them. All the trailers and clips show Eva Mendes (can't think why) though not the bit where she is put into a burka (hilarious) - but Kylie Minogue was better. And she sings. Look, just go and see it.
And then explain it to me.
