Review of Holy Motors (2012) by Wayne M — 01 Sep 2012
Leos Carax had delivered a breath of fresh air to cinema. A bewildering, unsettling, confusing breath to be sure. Denis Lavant, who is remarkable, plays a man ferried around Paris in one day in a stretch limo.
His 'job' is a series of assignments that range from the bizarre to the more bizarre. They make no real sense other then that they are grotesque and beautiful. Sometimes in the same scene. This is pure cinema, visually stunning and dramatically incoherent.
It will rest with you for days.
