Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Zachary S — 19 Feb 2009
This was interestingly better than I expected.
Since I first saw this trailer back in 2006, I automatically linked it to the film The Black Dahlia - a film that was release around the same time as this, and followed the same general story line of a Hollywood Murder. Upon watching BD, and ending up turning it off halfway through because of the ridiculousness and idiocy of the film, I was highly reluctant to watch this film, fearing it would be more similar than I had originally conceived.
Upon the first several minutes, I was shaken of that film, and was able to sit back the next two hours and actually enjoy the film, for all intents and purposes.
Adrien Brody's acting in this film is some of the best acting in a role I've seen him ever do. His portrayal of the cocky ex-Fed-turned-B-Rate-Private-Investigator was enough to keep me fully enthralled with not only the film, but the character himself, without a second notion.
Overall this was a generally pleasing film--not the best out of the recent films I've seen, but it is entertainingly enough. If it happens to fall in your lap, and you need to kill two hours, it's worth your afternoon.
