Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by David T — 11 Mar 2010
Very interesting movie about the death of TVâ??s first Superman George Reeves.
I recall this coming out and initially being fairly excited by this movie but then read reviews which panned it to death so I left it alone.
I forgot all about it, until it was shown on TV and starting watching it, it took me a good 10mins to realise what the movie I was watching and that at some point Iâ??d shown an interest in this movie pre-release, so I began to watch it and found myself pretty immerged in the story and the mysterious surroundings around Georgeâ??s death.
It sort of reminded me of The Black Dahlia which is a awesome movie and other 50s Hollywood crime movies like the un-missable Chinatown.
Despite this movie not being on a par with The Black Dahlia and Chinatown it doesnâ??t shame itâ??s self either and the whole look and feel of 1950s America has such an appeal as the back drop for movies in my eyes, always very stylistic.
I think fans of 1950s crime investigation flicks will find this an enjoyable experience and itâ??s one certainly worth a gamble as like me, you could find yourself totally spellbound by the who done it? story line.
