Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Paul M — 07 Mar 2014
Surprisingly, this is not a film noir I expected, instead a study of a Hollywood 'nobody', George Reeves, who try to be 'somebody'. The downside of this film is that the screenplay is uncertain exactly what it should be focusing on, which suppose to be Reeves' complex and uncertain relationship with his fame. We never get close enough to Reeves to know if he could have pulled that trigger or not. However, George Reeves is someone we can identify with, thanks to Ben Affleck's performance. Ben Affleck hasn't been this great for period of time, besides directing the fabulous 'Gone Baby Gone'.
A biopic that is not in-depth enough, but still watchable.
