Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Alan M — 12 Apr 2008
Hollywoodland is a well crafted drama, that creates a tangible atmosphere and boasts great performances from Adrien Brody, Diane Lane and even Ben Affleck.
The story is well structured, developing at a comfortable pace and runs an interesting parallel between the lives of George Reeves and that of Adrien Brody's character, adding some emotional depth.
However, this movie ultimately left me frustrated, due to the fact that it is based upon an unsolved crime, shrouded in mystery. Therefore, there were no dramatic revelations of fact and any attempt to probe into the mystery was pure speculation.
There is a lot to admire about Hollywoodland, but unfortunately it's a little bit hollow.
