Review of Hollywood Homicide (2003) by Simonti M — 16 Jan 2010
The film proved to be entertaining at certain points, but overall this film seems just rough around the edges. It feels like it needs a lot of work, and that's what brought it down. "Hollywood Homicide" could have been better.
Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett play to detectives solving a crime. Ford is also a real estate broker, and Hartnett wants to become an actor. These are just side notes made to make the audience laugh, but it's really not that funny. The premise overall is pretty repetitive, but then again, theirs not much variety in creativity that you can manage with a film like this, so it's not THAT bad.
I actually felt that Harrison Ford was pretty funny in this movie. Scenes where he's yelling at Harntett or fellow police officers is pretty funny, and it might be your typical Ford, but he still get's the job done. I feel like Hartnett is a different story. The acting he did is pretty poor. The scenes where he is trying to be emotional really suck, and he's way too corny. Some of the jokes that he tries to pull aren't funny either, so he kind of missed with this film. Everyone else in the cast gives basic performances. Nothing terrible, nothing amazing.
I liked how this film was shot though. I was very entertained by car chases in the movie, and with a creative blend of comedy during them, it kept me awake. This is about the best thing to come out of this movie, so that's probably why I enjoyed it so much.
To sum it up, "Hollywood Homicide" is a typical action comedy. It had some good moments, but overall nothing special. I guess they did the best they could with a film like this...so whatever.
