Review of Hollywood Ending (2002) by Christopher L — 01 Jan 2005
Starring: Woody Allen, Tea Leoni, Treat Williams, George Hamilton, and Debra Messing.
Written and Directed by Woody Allen.
Rated PG-13 (for some drug references and sexual material).
Running time approximately 1 hour 52 minutes.
Possibly Allen's worst effort since 1992's Shadows and Fog, Hollywood Ending is just too long, too slow and not interesting enough to recommend. Allen is very funny, and Debra Messing plays against her TV persona Grace as a stupid would-be actress, whose also in cahoots with Allen after a vicious divorce from Leoni, who, as usual, shines. It's all very well acted and directed, but the material is tired and I was not as amused as I had hoped to be. **1/2 (out of ****) B-.
