Review of Hollywood Ending (2002) by Donovan D — 09 Feb 2008
Fourth-rate Woody Allen. A lot of the minor Allens are minor only in comparison to the greatness of the master at his best and are still worthwhile viewings. This on the other hand, was just silly slapstick that never really reached its potential.
Given the subject matter, Allen could have been a bit more satirical. Instead, he resorts to blind jokes and his usual nervousness at its most uncharismatic. If the critics thought his films Deconstructing Harry and Celebrity mean-spirited, then this over-cheery trire is Allen at his most ultra lite and vapid.
Quite possibly my least favorite Allen film.
