Review of Hollywood Cop (1987) by Tim S — 23 Jul 2014
Amir Shervan is probably the equivalent of a modern day Ed Wood, and Hollywood Cop could be seen as a modern day Plan 9 From Outer Space. Ok, maybe it's not as memorable as that, but it's definitely crap.
It's also that good kind of crap, the so-bad-it's-good kind. And when you take a plot about an undercover cop and shove in a kidnapping plot but don't include anything even remotely close to good, then you've got a winner, or a loser, depending on how you look at it.
Amir Shervan made a variety of bad movies in the 80's and 90's, including the much-beloved Samurai Cop and Killing American Style. And like those movies, this one is just as bad. I actually can't decide which film of his is the worst, which is part of the fun.
After all, he's an Iranian filmmaker trying to make an American style action movie. And it's hilariously bad, in every possible way.
