Review of Hollow Man (2000) by Sums I — 19 Jan 2011
I always enjoy the "invisible" genre of movies... so many possibilities, so many hilarious and naughty things to attempt. At first this movie certainly delivers on the naughty things to do, but quickly devolves into a horror film with a crazy, invisible psychopath to contend with.
A new twist on the theme is that the longer you're invisible, the crazier you get... 'cuz there has to be SOME drawback to being invisible, right?
The special effects are way cool, like the idea of gradual disappearance, and the creation of a "skin suit" to feel normal. These and other ideas provide a number of original special effects... like the creepy scenes where water vapor exposes the invisible guy!
On the downside, the over-the-top action cliche's pull it down a few notches near the end. It also seems to go from sci-fi to slasher flick to create tension in the ending. Not great, but interesting enough especially if you wish you could run around naked & invisible. :-).
