These movies are not my thing. I really enjoy movies with complex plots and/or interesting characters. If that doesn't matter than at least a good story.

Holiday Inn is a period piece. Back in the day, many musicals were "entertaining" and light on the story ,but jam-packed with musical dance numbers. Much like todays action movies. A Michael Bay film like Transformers would be an example, (low story, high on action). I liked Holiday Inn for what it is. A simple film with a whole lot of dancing and singing. Although its pretty embarrassing towards the Lincoln's birthday song. How dated!

Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire hold this film together like Tom Hanks in Cast Away! They sell the movie. I do like supporting actress Louise Beavers and I wish she got more screen time in Holiday Inn. She seemed more grounded in her thinking than Bing or Fred. If you're not into dance-flashy musicals with little story than I'd skip it. Otherwise its a good family film to watch and I'd probably see this again in a couple of years. Its a novelty piece. For 1942, its a fantastic fluff.
