Review of Holes (2003) by Cecily B — 27 Feb 2010
This movie was pretty good. The adults in this film (though not the main focus) was very well cast. Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Henry Winkler, Patricia Arquette...all really brought their characters alive.
Of course, being a Disney film, the adults were not the main focus. This movie belongs to the teenagers that act in this film, and I'm happy to say that they did a pretty good job in their parts. Shia LaBeouf has become a lead actor in many current films since this, and this is where he got his start.
He does a good job of playing the unlucky Stanley Yelnats. One thing I really enjoyed about this movie is how the story comes together. You don't know everything at the beginning, and it doesn't walk you straight through it either.
There are things you know, and they keep adding to it slowly. Of course, if you pay attention, you see most of it coming, but what do you expect from a Disney movie. I think that both parents and kids can enjoy this, albeit for different reasons.
