Review of Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) by Matt G — 15 Aug 2011
Well, what did you expect? The film is what the title says, this is a 90 minute film about a 'Hobo With a Shotgun'. I enjoyed the film for the most part, being that it is an adaption of a thrown away 'Grindhouse' trailer.
Rutger Hauer is pretty much the only thing memorable about this movie, who is simply brilliant and downright hilarious in one of his most gruesome roles yet. The supporting cast is just embarrassing, as well as bad actors.
Also, it's hard for me to respect a movie where two brothers set a bus of children on fire, in a very graphic way. The action is fine too watch, but it's not like we've never seen it before.
As this is the fourth 'Grindhouse' released, it is not my favorite (that goes to 'Planet Terror'), but it is certainly not the worst (that goes to 'Death Proof'). I absolutely loved the old fashioned messed up color saturation, as well as the endless amount of cheesy dialogue.
Still, I felt they could have done a bit more with the Hobo himself as we are only presented with one "fun" scene in which the Hobo rampages through the town. Unfortunately, it does not last very long.
Despite those flaws, I had a good amount of fun watching this film, and as I mentioned, Rutger Hauer makes 'Hobo With a Shotgun' worth watching. Recommended.
