Review of Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) by Timothy K — 15 Sep 2011
The film plays homage to many different genres, and to me, that's what kills it. You have a revenge flick, 80's monster flick, post apocalyptic type flick, mindless gore flick, etc. The film (at MANY times) captures the essence of all of these quite wonderfully, but the in your face over the top gore within the first thirty minutes of the film made me immune for what was yet to come.
Holding a 67% on the tomatometer, obviously people dig this film. I am a huge cult movie fan of the 70's and 80's, and this one is a salty mix. I don't like vodka in my chocolate milk, but many others do.
To end on a positive note, the film has fine performances and a stable lead. And there are a handful of scenes to reflect on positively after you're through vomiting.
