Review of Hitman (2007) by Jonny B — 03 Mar 2012
Well on the majority of occasions, movies with bad press don't seem to appeal to me. I also know that many video-game adaption style movies often fail to pack a punch; signs did not look too good. However, sometimes people just need to throw negative reviews to one side and just watch the film for the sake of it; you may just be surprised!
It is clear that Hitman lacks on plot. The movie is made up of more action than story which is a slight let down because that surely would have boosted opinions on director Xavier Gens take on the popular console game. Also, a few of the characters on show did feel a little stereotypical without personality.
On the other hand though I have to say Hitman entails some outstandingly choreographed action sequences; Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) looks so stylish and professional during these scenes and immediately gives me the impression of ballroom dancing (strange I know).
For most of the films duration Agent 47 (Olyphant) is on the run from the CIA and his own organisation after being set up for the attempted murder of Yuri Marklov (Robert Knepper). With him is the sexy Nika Boronina (Olga Kurylenko) who unwittingly came as part of the package while on a mission.
In my honest opinion, the much loved action blockbuster Kill Bill (directed by Quentin Tarantino) was a pretty lackluster effort at a movie. There was nothing in the way of plot, the action was so unrealistic and some of the acting wasn't great either. Hitman is comparable to this but exceeds Kill Bill in numerous departments which makes me wonder why it's considered so shallowly when Kill Bill has been raved about!
