Review of Hitchcock (2012) by Blanche D — 10 Aug 2013
This movie is a masterpiece! The first reason I loved it was because the great casting made the movie even that more believable. All of the actors looked and talked exactly like the character they were portraying.
Anthony Hopkins did a phenomenal job playing Alfred Hitchcock and mastering the slow way he talked and how some words were emphasized. I also liked how they got into the personal life of Alfred Hitchcock, which some people may have not known about.
Like his relationship with Vera Miles. In the scene where Janet Leigh is driving Hitchcock home and she asks what happened with him and Vera and he talks about how she got pregnant and betrayed her like they all do.
Very powerful scene. Another scene that I loved was the scene where Alma finds all these pictures of his past "Hitchcock Blondes" out on his desk and it angers her because she feels inadequate and knows he fantasizes about being with them.
This scene and many others really revealed his personal life. Yes the movie would've been better without those weird scenes with him and murderer Ed Gein. I think it kind of brought away from the reality of the film and was nothing more than an attempt at adding more cinematic appeal.
But other than that, everything was spot on from the costumes to the music. I would say if you're a Hitchcock fan, then you HAVE to watch this movie!
