Review of Hitchcock (2012) by Ana B — 24 May 2014
Movie depicting the famous film maker while he was shooting his masterpiece: "Psycho". It focus mostly in the relationship he had with his wife and inspiration Alma but we also get to see his controlling ways with his lead actresses, the strained bond with Paramount, his voyeurism and his fear of failure. An interesting biopic where we get to know the personal life of an influential character of the suspense genre, but it is also a portrait of his marriage to Alma, an unsung screen writer and director, eclipsed by her husband's fame. In a way the film helps to set the record straight and retrieve Alma from the shadows of Hollywood.
It is a movie inside a movie with outstanding performances by the two main leads. It is particularly appealing as it gives you and insight into the behind-the-scenes of Hollywood of the end of the 50s and the controversy surrounding the filming of one of the most surprising movies of them days "Psycho". Nothing is fully surprising but the film achieves a good balance in all the subplots while keeping you entertained and busy all the way through.
