Review of Hitchcock (2012) by Mike V — 17 Dec 2013
Alfred Hitchcock (Hopkins): I will never find a Hitchcock blonde as beautiful as you.
Alma Reville (Mirren): Oh, Hitch. I've waited thirty years to hear you say that.
Alfred Hitchcock (Hopkins): And that my dear, is why they call me the Master of Suspense.
As to be expected from a film starring Anthony Hopkins in the title role along with vivacious Helen Mirren, it was beautifully acted. Although there was nothing really exciting about this film (maybe with the exception of seeing Ralph Machhio again in a major motion picure), this was at least a less creepy portrayal of Hitchcock than the made for BBC/HBO film "The Girl" (starring the ubber talented Toby Jones as Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren). In this film, Hopkin's Hitchcock was more of a sympathetic character whose visions was much too avant garde for Hollywood modest standards and his cinematic genius was ahead of it's time to be fully appreciated. Even though the film did somewhat waivered in the delivery of the main story (highlighting way too many unimportant subplots), the overall outcome was fairly satisfying, but not overly impressive. It was just a big bowl of o.k.... I mean, I liked it, but it was just alright.
