Review of History of the World: Part I (1981) by Tyler S — 21 Jun 2008
Mel Brook's comedy, The History of The World- Part 1, is a hit and a miss for most of the film, for each segment of "world history" plays out as its own parody. Each one suceeds or fails.
For example, the Spanish Inquisition and the Stone Age are quite funny segments. Meanwhile, The Roman Era and French Revolution segments are only funny every once in a while and get boring and repetitive quite easily.
As for everything else in the film, they are common Mel Brooks material and don't rise above the "average" level. Watch this movie for half of the laughs and the humorous ending and forget the rest.
