Review of His Girl Friday (1940) by Eric H — 08 Oct 2011
Wickedly smart and breathlessly paced. It may be one of the few non-horror films that actually challenges its audience physically. Keeping up with Grant and Russell's machine-gun banter and the runaway train of a plot can be a challenge on first viewing, but His Girl Friday is a classic that rewards concentration and further investigation.
Commenting on whole raft of political and social themes under the guise of a romantic-screwball-comedy, its commentary is important and importantly funny. Cary Grant is simply outstanding.
