Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by Ben W — 30 May 2009
A poetic venture into the unpleasant subject of the atomic bomb, as one might imagine from the title. marguerite duras wrote the excellent script, riva and okada do excellent jobs in their respective roles.
there are some very rough images presented mostly in the beginning of the film. it is a highly philosphical film, trying the understand the world that we live in now that it has changed significantly.
the way the film is shot and edited together was and to some extent still is novel. resnais uses short flashbacks to give a more realistic sense of how we remember things, the quick flashes that our brains reconstruct.
an extrordinary film.
