Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by Jackson C — 14 Nov 2012
A movie worth savouring and pondering as it delivers stunning shots with a powerful and emotional storyline. The setting of the film and backdrop of the movie is also significant, authentic and creative.
The brief relationship between the two protagonists really open up many questions. Were they in love? What did he see in her and what did she see in him? Or was it simply an infatuation with pain and past, and remembering the most painful periods of their lives.
Every shot and theme in the film feels like there is an abundance of questions worth asking, but none of that seemed to matter at the same time. Alain Resnais is the master at presenting pain.
