Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by Matt M — 01 Apr 2013
The story of an affair between a French woman and a Japanese man against the setting of Hiroshima. Their thought provoking reflective conversations, most of which make use of words by Duras who wrote the novel on which this film is based, and Resnais' trademark use of spectacular camerawork and sharp slide-show like editing, make this a wonderful specimen of poetic cinema, while the setting of an epic love story against the backdrop of Hiroshima brings a new haunting depth to the romantic drama.
