Review of Hillbilly Elegy (2020) by Shikamaru31789 — 25 Nov 2020

Just watched Hillbilly Elegy with my parents, who both have family in Appalachia and spent summers there growing up. They really enjoyed the movie, as did I. It's a heartwarming tale of trying to overcome adversity and better yourself.

The performances by the main cast were fantastic, I particularly enjoyed Glenn Close as J.D.'s grandmother. I really don't know what the critics have against this movie, seeing how hard most of them slammed it (with the exception of Richard Roeper, one of the oldest and most respected film critics in the business), only further cements my belief that movie critics are an extremely poor representation of what general audiences like.

This is exactly why I watch the movies that I want to watch instead of letting film critics influence what I watch.
