Review of Highlander: The Source (2007) by Aaron L — 26 Apr 2007
Not out until September, I got to view an advance, unfinished copy of the film.
Sort of a dark, flashy, post apocalyptic take on the Highlander lore.
I was unsure what to make of it at first, but the longer I watched, the worse it got.
While it is the first one to tie in directly to all of the tv series characters, it seems to take glee in destroying what the tv series was. Rag tag bands of cannibals, immortals pulling off Jedi-like powers, later immortals being able to die without losing their heads....
They nonchalantly kill off major characters minutes in for no reason and others have changed drastically from who they once were.
The campy overacting of the lame villain known as the guardian made me want to cut my own head off.
"The Source" almost feels like the bastard child of Highlander 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
When it was all over, I had no idea what had just happened and not in a good way. Even worse, they say that this is the first film in a trilogy.
