Review of Highlander II: The Quickening (1991) by Brendan N — 05 Nov 2012
My review is only based off the renegade version which is better but still a missed opportunity. the problem I had with the film is the weird concept that was worlds away from the first film.
Mulcahy has an eye for the camera and thanks to dvd this world is amazing and something of a cult film. the film is covered in darkness thanks to the ozone layer depleting.
Lambert is quite good in the lead but Connery seems to be phoning it in and doesn't seem to be entirely in it. michael ironside makes for a fierce opponent and is underused here but he does give the heroes a challange like the first film.
The film is much better then the original cut but the damage is purely down thanks to the odd story telling. I loved the original but I failed to understand what this film was about and where it stood in the franchise. if you view the film with the first don't worry if you are confused because I couldn't get my head around it.
