"Highlander" is a great idea shoddily executed. The concept of an immortal living through the ages, unable to have a family, passing through major events in history, and eventually having to defeat the others like him is actually a good idea.
Even the fact that the immortals battle with swords is fine, but that is where the good ends. Sean Connery is the only actor who seems to be enjoying his part, and it is far too small. Christopherâ??s Lamberts titular Scottish Highlander Connor MacLeod seems to be in pain throughout most of the film and his accent wavers between Scottish, Irish, English, French, and Brooklyn.
Clancy Brownâ??s villain, The Kurgan, is an atrocious 80s monstrosity â?? everything from his voice to his look to his name reek of bad writing. The filmâ??s cinematography is nonsensical and ascetically displeasing.
The music is typical 80s techno-jazz. The idea of "Highlander" is ripe for a big-budget remake, but as it stands, Russell Mulcahyâ??s 1986 sci-fi actioner is a thoroughly disappointing film.
