Review of Highlander (1986) by Tristian A — 21 Mar 2011
Watched this again a few nights ago. The version we have is a two-disc special edition thingy, but sadly the quality is not fantastic - I would say the masters have been lost and all "new" recordings of this have been taken off VHS/Reel tape backups. Still, even considering that and the quite frankly *terrible* effects - even for the time! - this is a movie that well and truly stands the test of time. It's a Hero's Journey, and through him you learn what it would truly be like to be immortal. The characters, except perhaps for the female lead, who is quite flat most of the time - are interesting and three-dimensional, and the action is well paced and well filmed.
This is a classic, and will always remain so.
