Review of Highlander (1986) by Tom R — 20 Mar 2011
Highlander: the film that spawned four awful, ghastly, terrible sequels. Is the original any good? Of course it is! The story about a Scottish swordsman beheading other immortals throughout time is just plain awesome.
It has a lot of faults, like its cheap production value, cheesiness, Christopher Lambert's accent, Sean Connery's lack of an accent (for his character), and outlandish moments especially with the Kurgan, but it's an iconic movie with a fun story.
Seriously, it's entertaining to watch an ageless man fight throughout the centuries and see how he has changed over the years with the world. It's a very 80's movie in its sword-fighting action scenes, perplexing dialogue, and Queen soundtrack (which was really cool) and fans of the decade will enjoy it.
Highlander is a great movie that could have been a standalone classic or an enjoyable series, but the sequels really tainted its name. Just try to imagine they never happened.
