Review of Higher Ground (2011) by Josh G — 29 Jun 2011
It starts off way too sweet, but that only makes the bittersweet that comes later all the more satisfying. This is a richly textured, beautiful film about faith and doubt, and finding your place in life and (if necessary) the church.
Vera Farmiga is a front-runner for Best Actress at next year's Oscars. Like Robert Duvall demonstrated in "The Apostle", her portrayal of a woman's struggle to believe and live out her faith in God is truly, in a word, breathtaking.
By the end at the Los Angeles Film Festival where I viewed this, there was hardly a dry eye in the crowd. If you get the chance to see it, see it. You've probably never seen something quite like it.
